Questions for Terra Nova Week

1. There is a discussion about Randolph, doing color-blind casting, or as he says rainbow casting, for the play (chapter 17, p. 112-117). Do you think he was right to cast the best person for the part or should he remain true to the fact that The Sound of Music is based on a true story and there weren’t any black or Asian people in the Von Trapp family?

2.
What do you prefer -- creativity with some chaos or order and predictability? Why?

Let's face it, not a lot of plays have different cultured people in it, so they're never going to get a chance if we base it on that. It should be whoever has the best audition for that part gets it. Just because they're African American or Asian doesn't mean they aren't good!! I think Randolph made the right choice.

I don't know, I like things being in order most of the time, but sometimes a little chaos doesn't hurt. Besides, life isn't always going to turn out the way you think it is. For example, when I was at Sacred Heart, I thought that was where I'd be going to school until eighth grade. Then my dad's boss told him we were moving, and it turned out totally different. I like it both ways.

If plays were always supposed to be the exact same way as it happened, we would have some pretty boring plays. Everyone tweaks it sometimes. So what if thy're from different cultures. Don't you remember Diversity University? If we only gave the parts to the people that were ACTUALLY French, or Italian, or Indian, we would only have a few parts.

You know, I'm so used to order and predictability, I could use a little creativity and chaos. How about you guys?

I know it is a true fact(the Sound of Music) but i think you should have the best playing the role. I think if this was for the president or something big, you would get people like the real people in the Sound of Music.( the skin color and maybe how they look like the real people in the Sound of Music.) You wouldn't probably have the best person performing in front of the president if there different nationality then the real people in the Sound of Music. You would probably look for a person that is as good or better and there the same mostly as the people in the Sound of Music. I think Randolph made the right choice a little bit but if this was for the president or something big then I think he would of not made the right choice.

I think Randolph made the right choice who cares if they are different races.

I prefer creativity with some chaos because you get a lot of surprises, and it can be fun.

Hey mrs. b, even you and mrs. y changed Prince Ugly, so why can't they change The Sound of Music? Does anybody get what I mean?

Good point GAN! We did choose a "color blind" cast for Prince Ugly. I think it will make the play better because I think we chose the best actors for the parts. What do you think?

It shouldn't matter what race they are. Talent is what matters to me. Watching someone talented perform is the best no matter what race they are.

Everyone should have a chance to do their best. God gave everyone talents.

i dident under stand some of the book but it is geting a litle easer to under stand. the beging of the book had nothing to do with the sound of music but the end has alot more about it.

I think you did a pretty good job choosing the parts. It wouldn't make sense if Prince ugly looked almost exactly like one of the other characters.

I love creativity, but I also like knowing what happens next.
